Barcelona v Chelsea: Ronaldinho honoured by Champions League memories

Ronaldinho scored one of the Champions League’s all-time classic goals in Barca’s 4-2 win over Chelsea in 2005.

The legendary Brazilian picked the ball up on the edge the Blues’ boss, shimmied on the spot before toe-punting home in style.

Ronaldinho produced another masterful display in a 3-0 win away to Real Madrid in the same year and received a standing ovation from the Bernabeu crowd.

Ahead of tonight’s vital last-16 second-leg clash between Chelsea and Barca, Ronaldinho has relived both vintage moments.

He told the London Evening Standard: “Those two moments are part of my history that I carry with much honour.

“But to be clapped by the fans of Real Madrid was a very, very touching moment.”

Chelsea are looking to join Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City in Friday’s draw for the Champions League quarter-finals.

But they face a major task to get past Barca following last month’s 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge last month.

Ronaldinho came face-to-face with England’s big guns several times in his career and knows they boost plenty of talent in this year’s competition.

He added: “It’s very hard to say which [English opponent] was the toughest because during my time there were amazing players at all these clubs.

“But Chelsea happened to cross our path many times and I have many strong memories of meeting them.”
