Lucas Vazquez: The Better Cristiano Ronaldo Is, The Better Real Madrid Will Be

Zinedine Zidane has a great deal of trust in Lucas Vazquez, he’s an incredibly valuable option to have in the squad, although it was Cristiano Ronaldo who took the headlines from the 6-3 win, leaving Vazquez to laud the 33-year-old’s influence.

Ronaldo scored four at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu as he catapulted himself into the Pichichi race, an achievement that is astounding when you consider how poorly he started the domestic campaign.

“The better Cristiano Ronaldo is, the better Real Madrid will be,” Vazquez explained in his post-match interview.

“Cristiano is playing at a spectacular level and it shows every day.

“If he continues like this, then he’ll be close to Messi [in the Pichichi race].”

Sunday’s victory capped off a fine week for the 26-year-old, on Friday he received the call from Julen Lopetegui that confirmed he would be part of Spain’s national squad for the upcoming international friendly matches.

“I’m very happy to receive Lopetegui’s call, now I want to enjoy being part of the team,” he confirmed.

“There are different phases over the course of the season. I had fewer minutes at the beginning of the year, but now I feel better and am getting more confidence.”

Whilst not an official confirmation, being part of this squad suggests that Vazquez is part of the former Porto coach’s thinking ahead of the World Cup, although the Spaniard is merely thinking about domestic matters at this point.

Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez (left) and Marcelo (second right) congratulate Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo after he scored.

“Going to the World Cup is a person goal, and the way to get there is by working hard.

“I have to give my absolute best for Real Madrid and keep trying to get things right.”
