Transfer Report: Manchester United To Battle Juventus In Race For Arsenal Midfielder Aaron Ramsey
Manchester United are set to fight Juventus for the signing of Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey this summer, according to reports.
The Welshman will have just one year left on his Arsenal contract at the end of this season, and is no closer to agreeing an extension with the Gunners.
Premier League rivals Man United are keen to take advantage of his uncertain future at the Emirates Stadium, while Juventus are also interested.
According to The Sun, Juve want Ramsey as part of a new-look midfield alongside Emre Can, who is expected to join the Italian champions in a free transfer when the window opens.
The report also claims United boss Jose Mourinho has identified Ramsey as the ideal replacement for Paul Pogba, should the unsettled midfielder push to leave Old Trafford in the summer.
The Sun even claim Mourinho has told United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward that he regards Ramsey as a better option than Pogba, as he looks to overhaul his squad.
With only one year left on his contract, it is claimed the Wales star could be available for around £35million.
United would have the financial power to be favourites for his signature, but Bayern Munich’s interest in Germany international Can could lead to Juve going all out to land Ramsey instead.
It means Arsenal could face losing another one of its key players due to their dithering on new contracts.
Despite Ramsey’s deal running down, it is claimed the club have not even discussed the possibility of a new deal with the midfielder this season.
Instead, they have diverted their full attention to agreeing a new contract with Jack Wilshere, but they could end up losing him anyway after offering him a deal which features a 25 per cent pay cut on his basic wage.
